Graphic Design

My work as a graphic designer focuses on clear, creative visual communication that tells stories. I’ve worked primarily in journalism, but I also have experience working for advertising agencies and in-house marketing teams.

  • The Senses Issue

For the Ball Bearings “Senses” issue, my goal was to create a cover that represented the richness that sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste bring to our lives. I combined studio photography with bright colors and textures to create a sensory experience that condensed the vibrance of all five senses into just one – sight.

  • Guns Drawn

The opinion page is an exciting challenge for news designers, since it allows more experimentation with type, imagery, and layout.

Meghan Sawitzke’s column is oozing with righteous anger — she pairs personal anecdotes with strong language to criticize the issue of domestic gun violence.

This page design integrates a prominent portrait, a data breakout, and creates a unique visual language across the spread.

Managing space is also a complex problem for newspaper designers. The opinion spread is at the end of the newspaper, so everything has to fit into two pages. Creating visual interest, breaking up large blocks of text, and packing 1,400 words into two pages took some time, but the result is a page that I was proud to help bring to print.

  • The Missing Issue

I designed the cover of Ball Bearings Magazine’s Missing Issue, which tells the story of things that are missing in Muncie, missing in our lives, and things that are no longer. Each sticker represents one of the stories in the magazine.

  • Double Time Magazine

Double Time Magazine is a fictional media company that takes inspiration from the legacy of jazz music. They’re bold in their storytelling and visual language across different media.

As part of the class project, I generated assets including a 16-page magazine, media kit, branding and style guide, web design, and app design.

  • A Change in Direction

For The Ball State Daily News’ special section on Indiana’s Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) that bans abortion, our team decided to create a timeline that shows how judgements and laws regarding abortion have changed over time.
